Platform delivery workers call for Labour Ministerial Regulation to protect platform delivery workers: hourly wage + 62-baht minimum rate, and 20% cap on app deduction

(15 August 2025, 10:00) Today at the Ministry of Labour, the Rangsit Platform Workers Group and the Riders Center met with the Labour Minister Pongkawin Juangroongruangkit to present issues faced by platform workers and demand the Labour Minister's actions for labour protection. The worker delegation also demanded the abolition of the controversial Draft Independent Workers Act and urged the Minister to issue a Labour Ministerial Regulation for labour protection.

Thai Labor Movement Demands FTA Talks Guarantee Union Rights and Collective Bargaining

The Thai labor movement—consisting of the State Enterprises Workers’ Federation, the Thai Labor Solidarity Confederation, the People’s Party Labor Network, and the Labor Network for People’s Rights, with more than 100 participants—gathered in front of The Athenee Hotel Bangkok on Witthayu Road, Bangkok. They demanded that the upcoming Free Trade Area (FTA) negotiations between Thailand and the European Union include the Thai government’s ratification of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Conventions on Freedom of Association and the Right to Collective Bargaining (Conventions No. 87 and 98).

Thai–Korean Health Workers’ Unions Hold Joint Workshop

On March 25, 2023, at Century Park Hotel, the Workers’ Union, the Federation of Practicing Physicians, and Nurses Connect co-organized a workshop with the Korean Health and Medical Workers’ Union (KHMU), the Nurses Union of Thailand (NUOT), the Paolo Memorial Hospital Labor Union, groups of gig workers such as delivery riders, domestic workers on platforms, massage platform workers, the Creative Workers’ Union, and the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) Foundation. The event provided a space to exchange knowledge, experiences, and strategies of struggle—including organizational models, challenges of union formation, and public campaigns.

Riders and Civil Society March to Bhumjaithai Party to Oppose Independent Workers Bill

On May 27, 2025 at 12:00 PM, an action was held under the banner “Join the Mass Rally Against the Independent Workers Bill” The march began at BTS Kasetsart University and proceeded to the headquarters of the Bhumjaithai Party. Participants included the Workers’ Union, the Mokluang Rimnam collective, and allied platform rider organizations. They submitted a petition to the Bhumjaithai Party, a coalition partner that holds the post of Minister of Labor, chairs the Parliamentary Labor Committee, and whose party leader also serves as Deputy Prime Minister. The petition demanded an end to the push for the draft Independent Workers Promotion and Protection Bill (Independent Workers Bill) and called instead for the issuance of a ministerial regulation that would clearly establish employment status and extend labor protections to platform workers, including access to labor rights and social benefits.
